There’s nothing like getting back to nature to make you feel refreshed and revitalized, and there’s nothing like being naked while gardening to get back to nature. It is not far off what humans used to do in the previous generations when we were farming in the early years of human life, but as years have gone by the world invented clothes and as amazing those
If you love getting your hands and feet into the fertile soil and enjoying the sight and smell of newly sprouted plants on their journey to becoming beautiful full ground plants, and also enjoy being naked under the warmth of the sun, then World Naked Gardening Day is for you.
History of World Naked Gardening Day
In certain countries in the world, there’s an unfortunate tendency to sexualize all nudity, making the natural state of our bodies one that is seen as uncomfortable and shameful to exist in. It is one of the continued taboos of society, that for one to be naked and to show their body, it must be sexualized or that they are seeking sexual gratification. Well, World Naked Gardening Day is anything but sexy or seductive! The only thing that should be pulling on this day of celebration for the naked human form, is you pulling weeds from the vegetable patch!
World Naked Gardening Day seeks to help change that by taking a normal everyday activity, gardening, and mixing it with another perfectly natural thing, being naked. There’s nothing like being out in the sun and soil while helping mother nature grow beautiful things to get us acquainted with the essential things in life.
Why garden naked? First of all, it’s fun! Second, only to swimming, gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities people are most ready to consider doing nude. Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us, even if only for those few sunkissed minutes, that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.
While, generally speaking, World Naked Gardening Day isn’t intended to be a public activity, but one you participate in your garden, it was inevitable that the quest to become more comfortable in our bodies would lead to people organizing World Naked Gardening Day events.
Some of these happen in one person’s garden; others take place in extensive co-op neighborhood gardens on specially designated days. No matter how you look at it, World Naked Gardening Day is a great event that’s bringing people together and freeing us from the confines of our cotton and polyester prisons.
How to celebrate World Naked Gardening Day
Well, the easiest way to celebrate World Naked Gardening Day is right there in the name, now isn’t it? Just get out there in the buff and do some weeding, plant some fresh tomatoes, or tend your flowers.
“When you’re out there with a gentle breeze on you, every last hair on your body feels it. You feel completely connected with the natural world in a way you just can’t in clothes.”
Barbara Pollard of Abbey House Gardens
Being in your birthday suit under the gentle glow of the spring and summer sun is so freeing and refreshing, remember to slather down with sunblock to make sure you don’t grow more than plants! There’s no reason to keep these activities to World Naked Gardening Day alone either! You can go out every day and spend some time with your skin and the sun while working in your garden.
So, whatever you do to celebrate the day, just make sure you have tonnes of fun, and make it funny! It is very rare that people are giving the go-ahead to reveal their naked forms, either in public or the comfort of your own garden, depending on how comfortable you feel.
However, as much naked gardening sounds like a bundle of laughs and fun, and just overall freedom, there are some things you need to consider and be careful of when working on your garden in the nude.
The first thing is please avoid thorny bushes. All well and good working on your prized Rosebush, but they prick and hurt at the best of times, so regardless if your a man or woman, it is maybe best to not work with these types of plants when sensitive areas are out and free.
Another something to consider thinking about before going outside in the nude is what equipment you are using. If you are trimming your bushes or hedges (no pun intended), then it is wise to keep the shears above the head and shear nothing down below, as that could result in some accidents! But apart from that, minus thorny bushes and sharp implements, then World Naked Gardening Day should be a breeze! (Really!)
Have fun, and showcase your amazing body to the world, as everybody has the right to be celebrated!
